(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, B.C.) - Canadians 3B Otto Lopez and CF Tanner Kirwer hit back-to-back solo home runs in the bottom of the 5th inning to break a 2-2 tie helping Vancouver to a series-evening victory on Wednesday night out at Scotiabank Field. The win put Vancouver two games clear of Spokane in the North Division after the Indians fell to Everett (4-3) out at Avista Stadium.
Canadians RHP Joey Murray got the start for Vancouver going two dominating innings as the Kent State University standout struck out five allowing just one hit. RHP Sean Wymer coughed up the Dust Devils only two runs of the night in the top of the 3rd inning as SS Tucupita Marcano (single) and RF Dwanya Williams-Sutton (sac fly) gave Tri-City an early 2-0 lead. Wymer (4-2) would go three innings scattering four hits before RHP Troy Miller (2.0IP), RHP Joey Pulido (1.0IP) and RHP Cobi Johnson (1.0IP) combined to snuff out the Dust Devils hopes for a series victory as the C's improved to 13-7 (.650) on the second-half with 18 regular season games remaining.
Vancouver LF McGregory Contreras was locked in from start to finish going 4-for-4 with a double, stolen base and run scored while Otto Lopez and DH Chris Back also had multi-hit nights.
Vancouver plays the rubber match of this three-game series on Thursday, August 16th at 1:05pm as LHP Nick Allgeyer (0-0, 2.61) gets the ball in hopes of a third straight series victory for the Canadians. The game has been announced as a sell-out, marking the 21st time this season a Vancouver Canadians game has been sold-out. Vancouver also announced that the entire three-game weekend series vs. Spokane is also sold out marking sellouts #22, #23 and #24 of the summer.
