(Avista Stadium - Spokane, WA) - The Vancouver Canadians (43-33) and Spokane Indians (39-37) will meet in the Northwest League Playoffs, presented by Scotiabank, for a best-of-three series that starts on Tuesday, September 5th here in Spokane starting at 6:35pm.
Both teams come into the playoffs riding highs as the Indians won eight of their final 10 games to get in on the final day of the regular season while the Canadians have won four straight pushed forward by a pitching staff that has not allowed a run in the past 32 innings which included a three-game sweep of the Tri-City Dust Devils in which Vancouver outscored the home team 10-0.
HEAD-TO-HEAD THIS SEASON:
Vancouver went 9-3 (.750) in 12 head-to-head meetings with Spokane this season, but split its most recent four-game series down in Washington with the Indians finding a pair of walk-off victories which proved to be the starting point toward a fantastic playoff push that saw them claim the second half pennant, one game better than Vancouver (22-16).
HISTORY:
Historically, these two franchises have met twice in the Northwest League Playoffs with the Indians winning the 2005 Northwest League Championship three-games-to-two over Vancouver while the Canadians swept Spokane two-games-to-none in the 2014 North Division Final.
The last time Spokane reached the post-season was last summer when they were swept two-games-to-none by Everett who eventually fell to NWL Champions, Eugene. The Canadians last appeared in the post-season in 2014 as their three-year reign as Champions came to an end losing in two straight to Hillsboro.
Since the Northwest League switched the playoff format to a first half and second half winner, eight of the 14 second-half pennant winners (57%) have advanced to the NWL Championship with three of them winning the title (43%).
