(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, B.C.) - After getting drubbed in their season opener at the hands of Spokane, falling 9-1, the Canadians bounced back with a hard fought 3-1 victory in front of a sun-soaked, sold-out crowd out at Nat Bailey Stadium on Saturday night. With the win, Vancouver (1-1) heads into the rubber match of this three-game series vs. Spokane on Sunday afternoon at 1:05pm.
Saturday's game featured a four-hit performance from 1B Yorman Rodriguez who managed a pair of doubles and two runs scored to spark the C's offense. C Brett Wright had a multi-hit night as well for Vancouver going 2-for-4 with an RBI single.
Not to be overshadowed the C's pitching bounced back with a near record breaking performance as the staff struck out 19 Indians hitters, falling one strikeout shy of the franchise record. Starter RHP Grant Townsend went 2 2/3 innings in his first action at The Nat, striking out five of the first six batters he faced. He would allow a lone double to Spokane SS Cristian Inoa in the top of the 1st.
RHP Luke Gillingham was first out of the bullpen (1.1IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 3SO) with RHP Grayson Huffman, (1.2IP, 0H, 0R, 2BB, 4SO) RHP Gage Burland, (2.1IP, 2H, 0R, 0BB, 5SO) and RHP Josh Almonte (1.0IP, 0H, 0R, 1BB, 1SO) making their 2019 Canadians debuts. Huffman would manage the win while Almonte secured his first save with a dominating 9th inning.
The Canadians announced a second straight sellout to start the season and host the Indians at 1:05pm with an A&W Family Fun Sunday that is also SOLD OUT.
