(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, B.C.) - Three Hillsboro pitchers combined on a five-hit shutout victory over the Vancouver Canadians which completed a three-game sweep out at Nat Bailey Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
RHP Deyni Olivero improved to 3-0 on the season after going six innings, allowing just three hits and striking out three more to see his ERA drop to 0.89 through four games. RHP Erin Baldwin (2.0IP) and RHP Jake Polancic (1.0IP) helped secure the shutout as Vancouver was 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position.
Offensively the game was won in the 1st inning when shortly after Steven Layton drew a walk from Canadians starter RHP Luis Quinones, RF Kristian Robinson hammered a pitch over the center field fence to give the Hops a 2-0 lead. The home run, came seconds after Canadians 1B Yorman Rodriguez dropped a fly ball in foul territory that should have ended the inning.
Vancouver 2B Davis Schneider was one of the few bright spots on Wednesday going 2-for-3 with a pair of singles while 1B Yorman Rodriguez saw his six-game hitting streak come to an end with an 0-for-4 afternoon.
The Canadians now travel to Salem-Keizer to open up a three-game series down at Volcanoes Stadium with RHP Grant Townsend getting the ball in the opener for Vancouver with the first pitch set for 7:15pm. All three games can be heard live on Sportsnet 650.
Vancouver Canadians Baseball returns to Scotiabank Field on Sunday, July 7th at 5:05pm as the C's welcome North Division rival Everett (Mariners) for a three-game series that has tickets available at www.canadiansbaseball.com, by calling 604.872.5232, or by visiting the Nat Bailey Stadium Box Office at 4601 Ontario Street, Vancouver, B.C.
