(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, B.C.) - After Tuesday's 9-1 loss to Everett out at Nat Bailey Stadium there is only one way for the Canadians to go moving forward, up. Vancouver pitching hit rock bottom in the series finale vs. the Aquasox walking 12 hitters and allowing 13 hits to fall to 6-20 (.231) on the season, eight games out with 12 first-half games remaining.
Canadians starter RHP William Gaston went toe-to-toe with Everett RHP Damon Casetta-Stubbs over the first three innings before the Cuban-born right-hander ran into trouble in the 4th allowing three runs on three hits and a pair of walks. Gaston would exit in the 4th having allowed five free passes and four hits and trailed en route to his 2nd loss of the season.
RHP Luis Quinones went 2 1/3 innings of scoreless baseball allowing just one hit, but behind him, LHP Nicolas Medina (1.1IP, 3H, 1R, 1ER, 0BB, 1SO); LHP Grayson Huffman (0.2IP, 1H, 1R, 1ER, 2BB, 1SO); RHP Mike Pascoe (0.2IP, 3H, 4R, 4ER, 2BB, 1SO) and RHP Parker Caracci (0.2IP, 1H, 0R, 0ER, 0BB, 2SO) all had challenges weaving their way through an Aquasox offense that ended up plating nine to move into a first place tie with North Division rival Spokane who lost to Tri-City on Tuesday night out at Avista Stadium.
Offensively, the Canadians posed little challenge to Everett pitching as the combination of RHP Damon Casetta-Stubbs (2-0, 5.0IP, 2H, 1R, 1ER, 1BB, 8SO) and RHP Matt Martin (4.0IP, 2H, 0R, 0ER, 0BB, 4SO, Sv. 2) carved through Vancouver's offense striking out 12 to help the Aquasox improve to 6-0 (1.000) vs. Vancouver this season.
Notes: The Canadians walked 23 Everett hitters (7.7per) over the three-game series in Vancouver... C's were outscored 22-8... Vancouver is now 4-12 (.250) at home through 16 regular season games.
Vancouver now heads into an off-day (July 10) before heading down to Everett to open up another three-game series vs. the Aquasox with RHP Grant Townsend (July 11), RHP Gabriel Ponce (July 12) and LHP Juan Diaz (July 13) set to pitch out at Funko Field in Everett, WA.
The Vancouver Canadians return to Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium on Sunday, July 14th at 5:05pm to open-up a three-game series vs. Tri-City with tickets available by calling 604.872.5232, online at ww.canadiansbaseball.com or by visiting the Nat Bailey Stadium Box Office at 4601 Ontario Street, Vancouver, B.C.
