(Volcanoes Stadium - Keizer, OR) - After four straight games of slugging it out with Salem-Keizer, the Canadians switched gears and waited until the top of the 10th inning to grab their only runs of the night as a three-run outburst helped propel Vancouver to a 3-1 victory over the Volcanoes on Monday night.
The story early was RHP Josh Winckowski who put together his best outing of the season going 6 1/3 innings of five hit baseball, striking out nine including Salem-Keizer catcher Joey Bart twice on the night as the #2 overall draft pick from the 2018 MLB First-Year Player Draf twent 0-for-4 with a hit-by-pitch in the bottom of the 10th inning.
RHP Justin Watts pitched 2 1/3 innings of no-hit baseball, striking out three before handing the ball to RHP Will McAffer who bent but didn't break when he took the ball in the bottom of the 10th inning with a three-run cushion allowing the only Volcanoes run of the night when CF Aaron Bond lined out cashing in SS Nico Giaratano who started the inning at second base as per Minor League Baseball's newest rule that begins each extra frame with a runner at second base. McAffer got 3B Wander Franco to fly out to CF Brandon Polizzi to secure the win and improve to 5-2 on the season.
With the win, Vancouver moves to 31-25 (.554) overall on the season but more importantly 12-6 (.667) on the second half, two games better than both Everett and Spokane who won on Monday. The Canadians finish their 13-day, 10-game road trip with a 7-3 (.700) record which moves them to 16-16 (.500) away from Scotiabank Field.
Vancouver Canadians Baseball now returns to Scotiabank Field to open up a six-game homestand that starts Tuesday, August 14th at 7:05pm as the C's welcome Tri-City (Aug 14-16) and Spokane (Aug 17-19) with tickets available at www.canadiansbaseball.com
