Spokane, Washington -- Kellen Strahm stole a sure base-hit off the bat of Will Robertson in the top of the third inning saving a pair of runs and then proceeded to slug the second of two straight home runs off Alex Nolan to help the Indians to a 2-1 victory over Vancouver. The loss sends the Canadians home 3-3 (.500) for a six-game road trip that began with a series victory in Eugene.
Nolan, 22, from Burlington, Ontario went 5 2/3 innings before he gave up back-to-back home runs to Luis Asuncion (4) and Kellen Strahm (4) which ended up being the final two pitches he would throw out at Avista Stadium.
Joey Pulido made his Canadians debut as the former Lansing Lugnut went 1 1/3 innings allowing a lone walk with a strikeout. Parker Caracci struck out the side in the eighth to keep Vancouver within a run.
Spokane allowed just one run when Luis De Los Santos singled home Cameron Eden (walk) which gave Vancouver the early lead.
Indians relievers went seven scoreless innings with Billy Layne Jr. (.2-0) going four innings allowing just one hit. Vancouver had 19 hitters retired in order between the third and ninth inning.
With the loss, Vancouver falls five game back of Spokane with just 16 games remaining. The Canadians head home to open up a three-game series vs. Boise that starts Saturday at 7:05pm.
