HILLSBORO, OR – The Vancouver Canadians dropped their ninth game in 13 tries at Ron Tonkin Field Tuesday night in a 6-2 loss at the hands of the Hillsboro Hops (Diamondbacks).

7 Blue Jays prospect Sem Robberse (L, 3-3) made his third start at The Tonk after going a combined 14 scoreless innings in his first two turns here. This time, the Hops got to him for four runs (three earned) on a season-high nine hits – though eight of them were singles – over 4.2 innings of work. He walked three and struck out four.

Vancouver spoiled the shutout with a run in the fifth after trailing 2-0 through the first four innings. #6 Blue Jays prospect Leo Jimenez delivered a two-out single to score Steward Berroa to draw the C’s within a run, but the Baby Snakes scored two in the fifth to build a three-run cushion before they plated two more in the bottom of the eighth on a two-out bloop single to center that should have been caught for the third out to keep it 4-1 but was instead played into a hit after the ball was lost in the twilight of the Summer Solstice.

The C’s added another run in the ninth on a two-out knock from Berroa, defensive indifference and a run-scoring single from Addison Barger, but it was all the Canadians could muster as they fell 6-2.

Garrett Farmer and Will McAffer were both excellent in relief with 2.1 scoreless frames between them.

Barger paced the offense with three hits and an RBI, the third time he’s logged three hits in a game this year. Berroa had two singles and PK Morris, Zach Britton and Miguel Hiraldo also contributed singles to the hit total.

Vancouver will aim to even the series tomorrow night with #22 Blue Jays prospect Chad Dallas on the hill opposite Ross Carver. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. with coverage on CanadiansBaseball.com, MiLB.TV and the Sportsnet Radio Network.
