McRee Named Pioneer League Pitcher of the Year

Undrafted Free Agent Becomes Fifth Great Falls Winner Since '07

Great Falls, MT-The Pioneer League of Professional Baseball has named Great Falls Voyagers RHP Aron McRee the 2016 Logan Hurlbert Pitcher of the Year.

McRee finished the season with a 5-0 record and a league-leading 2.16 ERA. He started 11 games with 12 appearances overall. In 66.2 innings pitched, McRee struck out 54 with only six walks. He posted the league's lowest WHIP at 0.95 and lowest opponents' batting average at .226. McRee represented the Pioneer League in the all-star game against the Northwest League. He was also selected as a Pioneer League end-of-season all-star.

McRee joins several former Great Falls pitchers who have won the award. Tanner Banks was named Co-Pitcher of the Year in 2015. Jake Sanchez won the award in 2013. Blair Walters was tabbed in 2011. And, Juan Moreno won it in 2007.

The 22-year-old McRee pitched collegiately at the University of Montevallo (NCAA D2) in Alabama. He was born in Omaha, NE and attended Thompson High School in Alabaster, AL. The first-year professional signed with the White Sox as an undrafted free agent.  

Great Falls plays a three-game series at Missoula starting with a Wednesday doubleheader at 6 p.m. The regular season finale is set for Thursday night. The Voyagers then return home Friday to begin the best-of-three divisional round playoff series against Billings.
