COMSTOCK PARK, MI - The West Michigan Whitecaps went to the rally well for the second straight night en route to a 5-4 win over the Dayton Dragons in front of 6,360 fans Friday night at Fifth Third Ballpark.
Despite falling behind twice in the opening game of the three-game series, the Whitecaps tied the game twice and then scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning as Cole Peterson delivered the game -winning single. The Dragons used a mammoth solo home run from Stuart Fairchild as part of a two-run second inning off 'Caps starter Tom de Blok. After Ulrich Bojarski doubled to start the third frame, RBIs by Peterson and then Colby Bortles knotted the game at two.
Mark Kolozsvary added a solo-shot off de Blok and pushed the Dragons lead to 3-2. In the 'Caps eighth, Bortles greeted Dragons reliever Austin Orewiler with a game tying solo home run blast to deep left field. Dayton once again took the lead, using a Randy Ventura RBI-single to take back the lead at 4-3 in the top of the ninth.
In their last at bat, the 'Caps Joey Morgan coaxed a one-out walk, followed by another base hit from Bojarski.
