2018 UPDATE: Congratulations to Jack Edwards and Samantha Holbrook, this year's recipients of the Power Baseball Charities Scholarship! Thank you to all those who applied for this scholarship. We appreciate your determination and great efforts, and we wish you all the best of luck in your future endeavors.
Power Baseball Charities is pleased to announce we are now accepting applications for our new scholarship program underwritten by Subway Development of West Virginia. This scholarship benefits one local high school baseball player and one local high school softball player.
You can find the application below. Please feel free to make as many copies as necessary for students meeting the eligibility requirements.
Please send completed applications to:
West Virginia Power
Appalachian Power Park
601 Morris Street, Suite 201
Charleston, West Virginia 25301
Any graduating senior residing in Kanawha or surrounding counties who will be attending any post-secondary institution on a full-time basis and has participated in either varsity baseball or softball is eligible to apply for the scholarship. Applicants will be required to show outstanding citizenship, demonstrate a role in bettering the community and list academic and athletic achievements.
A selection committee will review the completed applications and choose the two recipients, one male and one female. As long as these recipients stay in school and maintain a certain 3.00 GPA, they will continue to receive the $1,000 for up to four years. They will be required to send copies of their official transcript and proof of ongoing enrollment in order to stay eligible. The scholarship is paid directly to their school and there is no cash value to the recipient. We will contact their institution and make those arrangements.
A formal awards presentation will be made on a date to be determined in early August at Appalachian Power Park. There will be a pre-game ceremony at that game where the winners will receive recognition for their award by members of the committee.
