(Rome, GA- July 28, 2014)- The West Virginia Power dropped a 5-1 final against the Rome Braves on Monday night at State Mutual Stadium. The Braves were held in check until a four-run fourth inning and stopped the Power winning streak at three game.
West Virginia took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning off Matt Marksberry. Austin Meadows walked with two down and advanced to second on error. Edwin Espinal drove in Meadows to give Power starter Felipe Gonzalez the early lead.
Gonzalez pitched five scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out two. In the sixth, Rome scored four runs on a walk and four straight base hits off West Virginia reliever Zack Von Rosenberg. The Braves added a run in the seventh off Von Rosenberg (1-2) to close the scoring.
Marksberry (4-6) notched the win with seven innings of work, allowing just three hits and two walks. The Power offense did not reach on a base hit from the third inning on.
West Virginia and Rome conclude this series on Tuesday evening at 7:00 pm. Buddy Borden with start for the Power against the Braves Steve Janas. West Virginia is idle on Wednesday and begins a seven-game homestand on Thursday, July 31, at 7:05 pm.
