The Whitecaps finish the first-half with a record of 45-22 -- the best winning percentage (.672) of any team in professional baseball through games on Sunday.
The teams celebrated Father's Day as Vladimir Guerrero, Sr. made a surprise appearance to visit his son, Vladimir Guerrero, Jr. - one of the top prospects in baseball, and tossed him the games ceremonial first pitch. The elder Guerrero was a nine-time MLB All-Star during a 16-year pro career.
Cam Gibson, the son of Detroit Tigers legend Kirk Gibson, celebrated once the game began, lacing an RBI-double to open the scoring in the third inning. The 'Caps opened up their lead to 5-0 with a three-run fourth highlighted by Danny Pinero's run-scoring single. In the sixth, Gibson punctuated a huge afternoon with his team-leading tenth home run of the season, a two-run shot to give West Michigan a 7-1 lead. In the ninth, Anthony Pereira laced an opposite-field three-run homer to right, his fourth of the year to extend the lead to 10-1.

Spenser Watkins (4-1) carried a no-hitter into the fifth and earned his fourth victory of the season, allowing just three hits and a run in seven solid innings of work, Osman Gutierrez (1-5) gave up five runs in five innings on the mound in suffering his fifth loss. Gibson led the Whitecaps offensive charge, going 2-for-4 with the home run and four RBI. The outfielder hit .361 in his final eight games to finish the first half of 2017.
