In Game 1, a trio of home runs powered the Captains to victory. Lake County - who leads the Midwest League in homers, launched three different four-baggers in the contest. Two of which came from Conner Capel to open the scoring, followed by Emmanuel Tapia's 25th home run of the year to account for all Captains scoring.
In Game 2, Danny Pinero put the Whitecaps on the scoreboard for the first time on the day with a run-scoring double, plating Cole Bauml to give West Michigan a 1-0 lead. In the fifth, Anthony Pereira belted his seventh home run of the season, a solo shot to give the 'Caps a 2-0 lead. As rain began fall, Chad Sedio helped the Whitecaps take advantage of a pair of walks with a towering three-run homer - his fourth of the season to take a 5-0 lead. It was at that point that rain forced both teams off the field as a surprise thunderstorm swarmed the ballpark, causing a rain delay of over an hour. Upon resumption, Danny Pinero belted a three-run homer in the seventh to extend the lead to 9-0.
Alfred Gutierrez (8-6) tossed a six-inning complete game while allowing four runs and all three Captains homers in suffering his sixth loss of the season, while Sean Brady (1-0) earned his first win of the season with five scoreless innings in Game 1. Brandyn Sittinger (1-1) earns his first victory with the team after throwing three perfect innings in relief. The Whitecaps record moves to 30-12 in the second half, and 75-34 overall while the Captains sit at 46-66 overall with a 19-24 mark in the back half of 2017.
