Travis honored as Post-Season All-Star

August 30, 2013

COMSTOCK PARK, MI - Standout West Michigan Whitecaps' second baseman Devon Travis has been named a Midwest League Post-Season All-Star, the league announced on Friday.

The Post-Season All-Star Team consists of just one player at each position, meaning that Travis was voted by Midwest League managers as the best second baseman in the league during the 2013 season.

Travis, 22, hit .352 during his 77 games in the Midwest League before being promoted to high Class-A Lakeland on June 29. He added six home runs, 42 RBI, 17 doubles, 15 runs scored and 14 stolen bases to go along with a .430 on-base percentage. At the time of his promotion, Travis led the league in batting, hits (102), games played, and fielding percentage (.982) among second baseman while ranking second in on-base percentage and runs scored and fourth in total bases (141).

One of the highlights of the 5-foot-9 second baseman's season came at the Midwest League All-Star Game on June 18 in Dayton. Travis was 2-for-2 with a three-run triple and was honored with the Star of Stars award as the game's MVP.

Travis also put together the second-longest hitting streak in Whitecaps' franchise history by hitting safely in 21 consecutive ballgames from April 21-May 12.
