Whitecaps join MiLB.TV

All home games to be broadcast live online for subscribers
March 28, 2013

COMSTOCK PARK, MI - When it comes to watching baseball, too much is never enough. When the Whitecaps open their 20th season next Thursday, April 4, fans will not only be able to watch home games in person at Fifth Third Ballpark; they can also enjoy watching from their computer on MiLB.TV.

The Whitecaps have joined MiLB.TV, Minor League Baseball's live streaming broadcast service, and will offer live game broadcasts of all 70 of their home games to subscribers.

The Whitecaps join all Triple-A teams and select Double-A and Single-A teams as part of the MiLB.TV network. Other Midwest League opponents to offer the service are the Dayton Dragons, Great Lakes Loons and Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, so fans can also watch the Whitecaps on the road at those select opponents. The Midwest League All-Star Game is also included in the package.

Fans can follow former Whitecaps players and other Tigers prospects by watching the Tigers' Triple-A Affiliate Toledo Mud Hens' home games.

Subscriptions to the MiLB.TV service are $9.99 per month or $39.99 for the entire season, and is offered at a 50% discount to those subscribing to MLB.TV. Subscribers have access to all 3,500 Minor League games, streamed live as well as archived on-demand. To subscribe, go to milb.com and select the link for MiLB.TV in the top menu bar.

The MiLB.TV service is just the next logical high-tech step for the Whitecaps. The addition of the 54-foot by 28-foot high-resolution video board a year ago brought with it upgrades to the ballpark cameras and video capabilities, which in turn allows the team to provide a live feed of the game action for MiLB.TV.

Another high-tech upgrade for 2013 is the addition of live scoring on www.whitecapsbaseball.com. Fans will no longer need to refresh the web page to see score updates; instead, all game action, including balls and strikes, will push live to the website.

The live scoring feature will allow the live MiLB.TV broadcast to show the score bug on the screen during the live broadcasts. The MiLB.TV broadcasts will combine the Whitecaps radio broadcast audio, ballpark video and on-screen live scoring bug to provide users with a high-quality game broadcast on their computers or smart TVs.

The Whitecaps' season opener is next Thursday, April 4 at 6:35 p.m. (gates open at 5:00 p.m.). Tickets for any games, including season and group tickets, can be purchased by calling the Whitecaps front office at 616-784-4131, by visiting www.whitecapsbaseball.com, or in person at the Fifth Third Ballpark ticket office (open Monday-Friday from 10 to 6 p.m.).
