Before the calendar flips to 2019, we celebrate the holidays by looking back at 12 moments from the New Orleans Baby Cakes' 2018 season.

August 9

The Baby Cakes' hot streak in the dog days continued on August 9, when Sandy Alcantara limited the Iowa Cubs to one hit in six innings, and combined with three relievers on a three-hit shutout in a 1-0 victory.
Alcantara worked out of a first-inning jam after he walked two of the game's first three batters, settling in to retire 10 in a row until Iowa's first hit. Alcantara set down the final seven I-Cubs he faced and ended his night with six punchouts en route to improving to 4-0 with a 2.08 ERA at the Shrine on Airline, where he held opponents to a .192 batting average. It was the second time in his career the right-hander gave up just one hit, joining an outing with Single-A Peoria in 2016.

Jose Quijada took over in the seventh and walked a pair of batters before fanning Bijan Rademacher to escape trouble. He issued a two-out walk in the eighth, but Jumbo Diaz came on to strike out Mark Zagunis to leave the tying run on base. Tyler Kinley allowed two singles in the ninth, putting runners at the corners with one out, but induced a pop up from Jacob Hannemann and fanned Chris Gimenez to complete his sixth save.
New Orleans scored its lone run in the second inning when Tomas Telis doubled, went to third on a fly out and scampered home on a passed ball.
The 1-0 shutout was the Baby Cakes' second against Iowa in a three-week span, having also blanked the Cubs by the identical score on July 21 in Des Moines.
