Wichita, KS – The Wind Surge would come back to win an interesting game against the Springfield Cardinals 10-9, on a walk-off home run by Gilberto Celestino.

Starting pitcher Josh Winder continued his Double-A dominance today, not allowing a hit through the first four innings. He would finish the night with five innings pitched, two hits, one walk, and seven strikeouts. Winder remains 1-0 on the season, with a 1.48 ERA over five starts. He is currently the 14th ranked overall prospect in the Twins system, and the 5th ranked pitcher.

In his first ever Wind Surge at bat, BJ Boyd would line a double into left-center field, scoring Aaron Whitefield from first. Boyd would come around on a Jose Miranda single later in the inning, stretching the lead to 2-0. The Surge would continue this momentum into the fourth, loading the bases with no outs. Aaron Whitefield would walk in a run, and BJ Boyd would follow with a two-RBI single to left field. Boyd would finish 4-3 in the game with two doubles, two singles, and three RBI.

Winder would allow a leadoff homerun in the top of the fifth, as well as a sac fly to cut the deficit to 7-2. Calvin Faucher would come in for the sixth, but only make it a third of an inning. He would allow three hits, two walks, and three earned runs before being replaced with Brandon Koch. Koch would allow a run to score off an HBP, however he would force a double play to end the inning. He would throw a total of an inning and two-thirds, allowing two hits and one run.

Yennier Cano would enter in relief of Koch, and a Wind Surge error in the top of the eighth would allow the Cardinals to tie the ballgame, after trailing 7-0. In the top of the ninth, the Cardinals would have a batter reach on an error, and a Yepez two-run homer put the Cards up 9-7. Cano would allow three runs on three hits with two strikeouts.

BJ Boyd would get his fourth hit of the night in the bottom of the ninth, which brought Jose Miranda to the plate. With two strikes on him, he took the next pitch deep to left center, tying the ballgame at 9 apiece. It was Miranda’s fifth homerun of the year and marked his 23rd RBI of the season. The very next batter, Gilberto Celestino, stepped up and hit an opposite field homerun to give the Surge the victory.
