Isan Diaz had three hits, including the go-ahead single to snap a seventh-inning tie in leading the New Orleans Baby Cakes to a 6-3 win over the Omaha Storm Chasers on Monday night at Werner Park.
The Baby Cakes erased a 3-1 deficit and improved to nine games over .500, equaling a season high.
Omaha capitalized on an error in the third inning to cash in Chase d'Arnaud's leadoff double for a 1-0 edge, but the 'Cakes responded in the top of the fourth when Austin Dean doubled and scored on Deven Marrero's two-out single.
Nate Esposito connected for a two-run homer in the fifth off New Orleans starter Mike Kickham to reclaim the lead, but again the Baby Cakes came back the very next inning to tie. Eddy Alvarez opened the frame with a ground-rule double and scored on Diaz's single up the middle, and two batters later, Marrero came through with another RBI single to knot the score.
Alvarez keyed the winning rally with another double with two outs in the seventh and raced home on a single by Diaz, who collected his team-leading 25th multi-hit effort.
After a 19-minute delay in the eighth inning when the stadium lights went out, Peter O'Brien provided insurance with a two-run homer, his 11th of the year and second in as many games.
R.J. Alvarez worked the final two innings to record his 13th save, second-most in the Pacific Coast League. The Baby Cakes' bullpen combined to allow one hit in 4 1/3 scoreless innings, with Parker Bugg (1-4) earning his first Triple-A victory.
Josh Staumont (0-5) took the loss in relief for the Storm Chasers, who have dropped all five games coming out of the All-Star break.
The teams continue the four-game set in a Tuesday matinee starting at 12:05 p.m.
