Wichita, KS- DaShawn Keirsey Jr.’s baserunning led the Wind Surge to a 5-3 victory on Sunday afternoon as he scored two runs on wild pitches to power Wichita to the series victory.

Simeon Woods-Richardson made his first start on the mound for the Surge since June 11 and pitched two and two thirds’ innings, allowing zero runs on two hits and tallied four strikeouts before being relieved by Andrew Cabezas.

The Surge struck first as Keirsey Jr. hit a triple and later scored on a wild pitch to give Wichita an early 1-0 lead. Keirsey Jr. went two for three with a walk in the afternoon.

The Naturals tied the game in the top of the eighth as Tucker Bradley hit a home run to right field off Surge reliever Osiris German. Bradley finished one for four with an RBI in the game.

Wichita scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning as Keirsey Jr. scored the go-ahead run on another wild pitch. Ernie Yake and Chris Williams followed with RBI singles to give the Surge a comfortable 5-1 lead.

Northwest Arkansas scored two runs in the top of the ninth from back-to-back RBI hits from Seuly Matias and Tyler Cropley to cut the deficit to 5-3. The Naturals stranded two runners in scoring position to end the game.

Notes: Keirsey Jr. tallied his third triple of the season… Edouard Julien’s hit streak ended at 13 games… The Surge improved to 8-8 in series finales this season.

Coming Up: The Wind Surge will head to Texas for a six-game series against the San Antonio Missions starting on Tuesday, August 2nd. First pitch is at 7:05 and pitching matchups are to be announced. The game will be carried by radio ESPN Wichita 92.3, MiLB.com and Windsurge.com
