Surge Win Third Straight Game Against Missions

San Antonio, TX- The Wind Surge defeated the San Antonio Missions 5-1 on Saturday night as Wichita scored three runs in the first inning to coast to their third straight win and remain in first place.

The Surge struck first as they scored three runs in the first inning from back-to-back RBI doubles from Chris Williams and Andrew Bechtold to give Wichita a 3-0 lead.

Leobaldo Cabrera finished three for four in the game and hit an RBI double in the top of the third inning to score Ernie Yake and extend the Surge lead to 4-0.

Jack Stronach got the Missions on the board in the fourth inning as he singled to center field to score a run and cut the deficit to 4-1. Stronach finished one for four with an RBI in the game.

The Surge added an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning courtesy of a home run from Jair Camargo to give Wichita a 5-1 lead. Camargo went one for three with an RBI and two walks on the night.

Cody Laweryson and Steven Cruz combined for five scoreless innings pitched out of the bullpen for Wichita and allowed just three hits and struck out seven batters. Laweryson earned the win in relief and starter Reggie Lawson suffered the loss for San Antonio. San Diego Padres infielder Fernando Tatis, Jr. played in the game on a rehab assignment and walked twice and was hitless in two at bats.

Notes: Edouard Julien has reached base in 24 consecutive games and extended his hit streak to 5 games… The Surge improved to 5-6 against the Missions this season.

Coming Up: The Wind Surge will resume action against the San Antonio Missions tomorrow, August 6th for a 6:05 first pitch.
