Williamsport, P.A. - The Crosscutters were unable to avoid the three-game series sweep by the Doubledays, falling 4-1 to wrap up their six-game home stand.
Auburn got on the board early against Crosscutters starter Gustavo Armas, taking advantage of three consecutive singles that plated Gage Canning to give the Doubledays a 1-0 lead.
Armas would settle in, working a clean 2nd inning and then striking out the side in the 3rd innings to up his total to four through 3 innings of work.
After striking out Adalberto Carrillo to open the 4th inning, giving Armas four-straight strike outs, Jamori Blash flew out to center to snap the string.
Isreal Pineda took advantage of the lone real mistake from Armas, drilling a 2-2 hanging breaking ball into the left field bullpen to make it 2-0 Doubledays.
The Crosscutters tried to respond in the bottom of the 4th inning, getting a two-out triple from Ben Pelletier, his first three-bagger of the season. Unfortunately, he would be left at 3rd and the Cutters remained off the board.
Lenin Rodriguez led off the bottom of the fifth for Williamsport with a broken bat single to left-center and would be chased home on a double from Brayan Gonzalez to cut into the deficit at 2-1. It was the eighth RBI of the season for Gonzalez.
Gustavo Aramas was relieved in the top of the 7th inning, allowing two runs on five hits, without allowing a walk. He tied a season-high with seven strikeouts, matching his totla from his first start of the season, against Auburn.
Keylan Killgore entered in the top of the 7th inning, making his professional debut. The lefty out of Wichita State struggled in his first inning, allowing a pair of runs on three hits and two walks in the inning as the Doubledays worked their lead to 4-1.
Killgore bounced back in the 8th inning, striking out the side in his final inning of work. Killgore finished the night, allowing two runs on three hits and walking two. He punched out four batters.
Luis Ramirez worked a scoreless 9th inning for Williamsport, picking up a strikeout and working around a single in the process.
Williamsport had their last 10 batters retired, as they were unable to mount a late inning come back and avoid the sweep.
The Crosscutters conclude their series with the Auburn Doubledays at BB&T Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field tomorrow evening. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
Cutter Carvings - Ben Pelletier was the only Cutter with two hits, giving him his 6th multi-hit game in his last 11 games...Williamsport's last five-game losing streak came in August of 2017... The Cutters are now 5-5 at home this season...
