Burlington, V.T.- The Crosscutters were unable to complete the three-game sweep, falling 8-3 to Vermont in the series finale.
Francisco Morales looked to rebound from his shortest outing of the season, but the Vermont Lake Monsters had other plans, scoring four runs against the Cutters starter, handing the Morales his 2nd loss of the season.
Morales gave up a run in each of the 1st and 2nd innings and then after a clean 3rd, Vermont scored two more runs. Over 4.0 innings of work, Morales allowed four runs on four hits and four walks, while striking out three.
Jesus Henriquez got the Crosscutters on the board in the top of the 5th inning, ripping a RBI double into the right field corner, chasing home Keudy Bocio to cut the deficit to 4-1 on Henriquez's 11th RBI of the season.
Jose Jimenez entered out of the Cutters bullpen, worked around a single in the 5th inning for a scoreless frame, but the Lake Monsters got to the Cutters reliever in the 6th, plating three runs on three hits and taking advantage of two Williamsport errors, upping their advantage to 7-1.
Jimenez allowed three runs on four hits and a walk while striking out two over 1.1 innings of relief.
Tyler Carr got the final two outs of the 6th inning, and then worked a scoreless 7th inning to keep the deficit at 7-1.
Madison Stokes led off the top of the 8th inning with a double, followed by a Ben Aklinski blast to bring the Cutters within four at 7-3. It was the 3rd home run of the season for Pelletier, giving him a team-leading 21 RBI.
Vermont took advantage of a Ben Pelletier error on what would have been the final out of the 8th, scoring a run against Ross to up their advantage to 8-3.
Williamsport failed to plate a run in the top of the 9th, falling 8-3 to Vermont to close out the road trip.
Carr allowed the one run on one hit and did not walk a batter, striking out three over 2.2 inning out of the Cutters bullpen.
Williamsport will make the long trek back home, as they start a three-game series against the Hudson Valley Renegades. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. At BB&T Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field.
