State College, PA. - Jaxon Shirley was able to connect on his first home run of the season, but it wasn’t enough as the Cutters dropped a 14-2 decision on the road to the State College Spikes.

Jacob Smith got the start for Williamsport, his third of the season. Smith was only able to work one inning, allowing three runs on three hits and a walk. He struck out a pair of Spikes as he took the loss.

Dominic Hambley was the second pitcher for the Cutters and got off to a great start, working a perfect inning in the bottom of the 2nd. But State College got to him in the bottom of the 3rd, plating a pair of runs. Hambley finished the night allowing two runs, one earned, on two hits. He did strikeout a pair

Williamsport went to the bullpen again in the 4th inning, calling on Francisco Mateo, and the right-hander struggled to get through his only inning of work. He allowed five runs on two hits and three walks, striking out three.

Holden Christian took over in the bottom of the 5th inning, with Williamsport trailing 10-2 and he was fantastic through two and a third innings, retiring the first seven batters he faced, striking out six of them. Christian ran out of gas with one out in the 7th, allowing three-straight Spikes to reach via a double, single and double.

Christian’s final line saw him allow three runs on three hits over 2.1 innings of work, striking out a team-high six.

Ryan Velazquez was the fifth and final pitcher called upon by the Cutters, as he would struggle with his command. He allowed four runs on two hits and four walks over 1.2 innings of work, striking out two.

Williamsport’s offense was limited to two runs on five hits in the loss, with their first run coming in the top of the 4th as Lance Logsdon scored on a series of errors by the Spikes defense, making it a 5-1 deficit at the time.

Jaxon Shirley’s solo home run traveled 412 feet to center in the top of the 5th inning, but it only brought the deficit to 10-2 and would be the final run scored for the Crosscutters in the game.

The Crosscutters will remain in State College for the rubber game of this three-game series against the Spikes. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.
