Williamsport, P.A. - Logan Simmons provided the Crosscutters first home run of the season, coming in Williamsport's 4-2, 10-inning loss to the State College Spikes.
Leonel Aponte got his first start of the season for the Crosscutters, and was able to work the first inning and two-thirds scoreless, until Dareil Gomez launched a fastball over the center field wall to give the Spikes a 1-0 lead.
It was the only run surrendered by Aponte over his four innings of work. The right-hander allowed the one run on just two hits and a walk, striking out two.
Michael Gomez looked to build off of his first outing of the season, but the Spikes were able to get to him for a run on three hits and a walk. Moises Castillo ripped a two-out double to score Gomez and extend the Spikes lead in the 5th to 2-0.
Luis Cedeno made his 2019 Crosscutters debut and gave the Crosscutters three shutout innings, with only two batters reaching base, both by way of hit batsmen. Cedeno struck out two before exiting in the 9th.
Logan Simmons sparked the Crosscutters offense with a lead off home run over the left field wall off of Junior Gonzalez. It was the 4th career home run for Simmons, who belted three long balls in the GCL last year.
Brayan Gonzalez provided the 2nd an final run for Williamsport, ripping a double down the first base line into right, stealing 3rd base and scoring on a Junior Gonzalez wild pitch to tie the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the 7th.
After working a clean inning of relief in the top of the 9th, the Spikes got to Alejandro Made in the top of the 10th inning using back-to-back, two-out, RBI doubles from Moises Castillo and Carlos Soto to take a 4-2 lead.
The Crosscutters were able to get the winning run to the plate in the bottom of the 10th inning, but were unsuccessful getting in a run, dropping to 2-3 on the season and 1-3 at home in 2019.
The Crosscutters head to State College for the final two games of the series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.
