Blue Rocks Suffer Shutout Loss to Hillcats

Wilmington, DE- The Wilmington Blue Rocks (60-60/29-21) lost the second game of the crucial three-game series against the Lynchburg Hillcats, (60-58/31-20) this time, by a score of 4-0 on Wednesday night at Frawley Stadium. Wilmington, DE- The Wilmington Blue Rocks (60-60/29-21) lost the second game of the crucial three-game series against the Lynchburg Hillcats, (60-58/31-20) this time, by a score of 4-0 on Wednesday night at Frawley Stadium. Wilmington was shutout for just the ninth time this season as Lynchburg starter Sam Hentges worked six-plus innings of scoreless baseball. Lefty Daniel Tillo turned in a quality start for the Blue Rocks as well and allowed two runs in six innings of work. With the loss, the Rocks are now a game-and-a-half out of first place.
 

The Hillcats took the lead in the top of the third. Mitch Longo lined a single to left to score Rodriguez who reached on a fielder's choice to put Lynchburg ahead 1-0. Gavin Collins added to the lead with a double to left to score Longo and make it a 2-0 ballgame. Lynchburg scored an insurance run in the top of the seventh. Tyler Friis drew a one-out walk and then moved to third on a single by Austen Wade to put runners on the corners with one out.
Emmanuel Tapia smacked a deep fly ball to right to bring Friis home and extend the lead to 3-0. The Hillcats put the game out of reach in the top of the eighth. With the bases loaded, Trenton Brooks hit a sacrifice fly to left that was deep enough to score Rodriguez and give Lynchburg the 4-0 lead.    
Wilmington was held to just three hits in the setback and have now been held scoreless over their last 18.1 innings of play.
Wilmington will look to avoid the sweep against Lynchburg on Thursday, August 16 with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m. The Blue Rocks will have right-hander Nolan Watson (6-2, 3.88 ERA) on the mound. The HIllcats will send lefty Tanner Tully (4-10, 4.49 ERA) to oppose him. Fans can tune into the game with Cory Nidoh on the call on 89.7 WGLS-FM.

The Rocks got another strong start from their starter as lefty Daniel Tillo turned in a quality start. The southpaw worked six innings, allowed two earned runs on five hits, did not walk a batter and struck out two. It was Tillo's fourth quality start as a Blue Rock. It marked the second straight quality start turned in by the Blue Rocks this series. Gerson Garabito worked six innings and allowed just one run on two hits in the series opener Tuesday night.
With the loss, Wilmington has lost three straight games for the first time in the second half. Entering the game, the Blue Rocks were 4-0 in games in which they were on the brink of dropping three straight contests. The Blue Crew lost three or more games in a row six different times in the first half.
