Wilmington, DE- For the second straight week a Wilmington Blue Rock was named the Carolina League Pitcher of the Week by the league office. After Rito Lugo won last week Kris Bubic  earned the distinction for his performance in the time ranging from August 12-18.

Bubic took a no-hitter into the ninth inning of his only start, but had to settle for a one-hit complete game shutout as the Rocks beat Lynchburg, 1-0 on August 15.
Bubic allowed just one baserunner over the Hillcats' first eight trips to the plate. The flame-throwing prospect issued a lead-off walk in the fourth to Steve Kwan, who was caught stealing second just one out later. Bubic faced the minimum through eight innings. He fanned 11 on the night and needed only 99 pitches (67 strikes) to get 27 outs.
Unfortunately for Bubic and the Blue Crew, he missed tossing a no-hitter by three outs. Jason Rodriguez opened the ninth with a sinking liner into center that dropped just in front of the hard-charging Tyler Hill. He then moved up to second on a wild pitch. Suddenly the Rocks' 1-0 lead hung in the balance with a runner in scoring position. But Bubic finished strong, retiring the final three batters courtesy of two strikeouts and a grounder to second.
On the season Bubic is 6-3 with a 2.34 ERA in 14 starts with Wilmington. The lefty played his college ball at Stanford where he was a Third Team All American in 2018, finishing the season 8-1 with a 2.62 ERA in 86.0 innings. He held opponents to a .199 batting average and struck out a team-high 101. Bubic's amateur career also featured a 2017 Cape Cod League Pitcher of the Year Award. His resume earned him a $1.59 million signing bonus. Bubic entered the season as the Royals' No. 9 prospect according to MLB.com. Bubic appeared in the All-Star Future's Game in Cleveland this season.
He is the fourth Rock to win an award from the league office this season. Aside from Lugo last week, right-hander Jonathan Bowlan  was recognized for the period ranging from July 15-22 thanks to his no-hitter against Carolina on July 15, while southpaw Daniel Lynch was the first to be recognized for the period from May 20-27.
