Early Lead Slips Away From Blue Rocks in Loss

Winston-Salem, N.C. - The Wilmington Blue Rocks had an early lead slip away in the second game of the series against the Winston-Salem Dash and ultimately fell 4-2 Friday night at BB&T Ballpark. The Blue Rocks scored a pair of runs in the first inning, but the Dash scored four unanswered to steal the victory from Wilmington. Rocks' starter Gerson Garabito struck out seven batters in five innings of work in a no-decision.
 

Wilmington jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning of the game. Nick Heath led the game off with a double before D.J. Burt drove him home with an RBI single to make it a 1-0 advantage. Two batters later, Xavier Fernández ripped an RBI double to plate Burt to push the Rocks out in front 2-0.

The Dash answered with four unanswered runs in the middle innings. In the fourth, the Dash got on the board with an RBI groundout from Zach Remillard to make it 2-1. In the fifth inning, Mitch Roman drove in another run with a run-scoring single to tie the game at 2-2. Blake Rutherford doubled home Micker Adolfo in the bottom of the sixth inning to give the Dash their first lead of the game, 3-2. Roman added another run in the frame with a sacrifice fly to put the Rocks behind 4-2.
 
Wilmington and Winston-Salem play the third game of the four-game series on Saturday, June 16 at BB&T Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. with the Blue Rocks calling upon righty Arnaldo Hernandez (6-4, 4.35 ERA) while the Dash will send right-hander Jimmy Lambert (4-6, 4.45 ERA) to the mound. Fans can listen to the game as Matt Janus will have the call on 89.7 WGLS-FM.
PEBBLES OF KNOWLEDGE:
D.J. Burt picked up a single and drove in a run in Friday's loss. The Carolina League Northern Division All-Star has now picked up a hit in 17 of his last 22 games and hitting .301 (25-83) during that span. The utility plater for the Blue Rocks made another start at third base this season and has now made 13 starts at the position, the most of any other position this season. A natural second baseman, Burt has started 11 games at his primary position, 10 at shortstop and seven in left field this season.
Garabito turned in one of his better starts of the season with five solid innings of work. The righty allowed just two runs (both earned) on four hits, walked three and struck out seven men in a no-decision. It marked the ninth time in his 13 starts this season that he has allowed two earned runs or less. Garabito bounced back from his last start in which he worked just 4.2 innings, allowed five runs (four earned) on a season-high 10 hits.
Outfielder Kort Peterson picked up a pair of hits in the loss to push his multi-hit total to 15 games which is tied for second-most on the team. The Carolina League All-Star has picked up a hit in 17 of his last 21 games and in 31 of his 44 total games played this season. Peterson leads the team in hits (63) doubles (17) and home runs (8).
