After 28-straight scoreless innings from the Wilmington Blue Rocks, the Washington Nationals affiliate ended their losing streak after shutting out the Jersey Shore BlueClaws 4-0.

The scoring started for the Blue Rocks at the bottom of the first when a double from catcher Drew Millas was able to push center fielder Jermey De La Rosa over home plate and put the team in the lead for the first time in three games.

With the second and third innings scoreless for both teams, the Blue Rocks defense was able to shut down any offensive movement from Jersey Shore, recording three consecutive outs in the field during the second, as well as two strikeouts by starting pitcher Dustin Saenz in the third.

The bottom of the fourth saw more scoring action from Wilmington, helmed by a home run from designated hitter Kevin Strohschein that also scored Millas and upped their lead, 3-0.

Shortstop Jordy Barley recorded his second home run of the season during the bottom of the fifth on a fastball from BlueClaws relief pitcher Erubiel Armenta. This capped the score off at 4-0, ended the Blue Rocks’ scoreless streak, and ended their series against the BlueClaws with a record of 4-3 in Jersey Shore’s favor.

Saenz, redeeming himself after a poor performance against the BlueClaws on Tuesday, July 26, was handed the win for his 52 strikes thrown over 82 pitches and 19 batters faced. Jersey Shore’s starting pitcher, Dominic Pipkin, recorded the loss for the three runs recorded over 3.1 innings pitched.

The Blue Rocks will take on the Aberdeen IornBirds after a short break on Tuesday, August 2, with first pitch occurring at 6:35 p.m.
