WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (July 19, 2019) -Thanks to a strong start by Jorgan Cavanerio and 14 hits from the Dash offense, Winston-Salem claimed a 9-3 victory over the Wilmington Blue Rocks on Friday night at BB&T Ballpark.
Making his 12th start in a Dash (12-17, 50-43) uniform, Cavanerio (6-0) was outstanding. The right-hander allowed just one earned run on three hits across seven innings while striking out five and walking only one. Meanwhile, the Dash broke the series finale wide open in the eighth.

Already leading 3-2, the Dash pounced on Wilmington (15-13, 59-38) reliever Josh Mitchell . Leading off the frame, Craig Dedelow blooped a single into right field before Zach Remillard reached on catcher's interference by Sebastian Rivero. Then, Jameson Fisher walked to load the bases.
After a Tate Blackman strikeout, Evan Skoug drew the second walk of the inning to score Dedelow and make it 4-2. The next batter, Yeyson Yrizarri, grounded into a fielder's choice to bring home Remillard and push the lead to 5-2. Tyler Frost then hit an infield single, scoring Fisher to pad the lead to four runs.
Not content with a three-run inning,  Mitch Roman reached on an infield single to reload the bases. Following Roman's single, Mitchell was replaced by Robert Garcia. The first batter to face Garcia was Steele Walker, who promptly cleared the bases by ripping a double into left-center field to make it 9-2.
Wilmington did get one back in the ninth with a solo shot by Nick Pratto. However, Will Kincanon induced a double play from Sebastian Rivero and a strikeout from Colby Schultz to earn the save and end the game.
The Blue Rocks scored first against Cavanerio the top of the third. To lead off the frame, Rivero smacked a double that one-hopped the wall in center field. Colby Schultz then laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance Rivero to third. The next batter, Michael Gigliotti, hit an infield single, allowing Rivero to score and give Wilmington the lead.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Dash responded against Wilmington starter Marcelo Martinez (5-4). Tate Blackman got the inning started by reaching on an infield single. Following a Skoug strikeout, Yrizarri hit an infield single of his own to put runners at first and second.
After Yrizarri's single, Martinez fired an errant pickoff attempt into center field, allowing both runners to advance into scoring position. Frost then grounded out to score Blackman and tie the ballgame. Then, Roman poked a single through the middle to bring home Yrizarri and give the Dash a 2-1 lead.
The Dash added another run in the bottom of the seventh. With one out, Frost doubled into center field before coming into score on a single by Roman to make it 3-1.
Wilmington cut into the Winston-Salem lead in the top of the eighth. Following a Colby Schultz strikeout, Michael Gigliotti reached on a bunt single before stealing second and reaching third on a throwing error by the first baseman Fisher. Blake Perkins then singled into left field to bring home Gigliotti to make it 3-2. However, Kincanon struck out Dennicher Carrasco to end the inning before the Dash broke it open in the bottom half.
