HICKORY, N.C. (May 12, 2021) – The Winston Salem Dash fell on Wednesday to the Hickory Crawdads by the score of 3-1.

Johan Dominguez took the hill in his second start of the season for the Dash. Cole Ragans opened up for the Crawdads.

The Dash offense remained quiet through the first three innings as Ragans whiffed five Dash hitters, most notably striking out the side in the second frame.

Dominguez found plenty of trouble in the third, beginning with a solo homer to right field off the bat of Miguel Aparicio. Jonathan Ornelas followed with a two-bagger to right. Ornelas came around to score on a liner to left from Frainyer Chavez. Rattled by the early offensive barrage, Dominguez lost control of a pitch and gave Chavez a path to second base. Chavez quickly advanced to third on a fielder’s choice and scored on a Jake Guenther apple-knock to right. The ‘Dads ran up on the Dash 3-0 at the end of 3 innings.

The Dash tried for a momentum swing in the fourth inning. Yolbert Sanchez put himself aboard on a grounder past first base and took second as Luis Curbelo reached on a walk. Sanchez touched home on a single up the middle by Harvin Mendoza. The scoring stopped there for the Dash, who ultimately fell to the Crawdads 3-1.

The remainder of the contest was highlighted by superb bullpen pitching from both teams.

Hickory reliever Tai Tiedemann racked up his first win of the season and pitched four innings of no-hit baseball, giving up no walks and striking out four batters. Closer Zach Snyder earned his second save on the year.

Dominguez took the loss for the Dash, but was backed up by Cooper Bradford, Declan Cronin, and Pauly Milto. The Dash bullpen only gave up two hits, allowed no walks, and struck out a combined five Hickory batters.

The Dash's record moves to 3-5, while the Crawdads have evened out at 4-4.

The two teams go head-to-head again tomorrow night at L.P. Frans Stadium in Hickory. Jason Bilous (0-0) will take the mound for Winston-Salem. Hickory will call on Cody Bradford (0-0). First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET.
