Dash Fall to Bowling Green 9-3 in Series Finale

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (September 12, 2021) — The Winston-Salem Dash fell to the Bowling Green Hot Rods 9-3 in the finale of a six-game series Sunday.

Starter Dan Metzdorf retired six in a row before allowing a run in the third after Gionti Turner scored on a single from Diego Infante to put the Hot Rods ahead 1-0. The Dash answered in the bottom of the fourth inning as Luis Curbelo walked and later scored on a single from Gunnar Troutwine.

Bowling Green snapped the 1-1 tie in the fifth when Brett Wisely doubled to send Gionti Turner home for the second time. The Hot Rods continued their momentum with a pair in the top of the sixth on a single from Roberto Alvarez that sent Grant Witherspoon and Logan Driscoll home to push Bowling Green ahead at 4-1.

The Dash battled back immediately with a two-spot in the home sixth. With two outs, Harvin Mendoza was hit by a pitch and sped home on an RBI double by Gunnar Troutwine. Troutwine was pushed to third on a balk and scored on a single down the third base line tapped by Jeremiah Burks**.**

Osleivis Basabe tallied another run for the Hot Rods in the eighth on a solo homer that snuck over the wall in left center field. Brett Wisely drove in two more on a single. With Brett Wisely on first, Tanner Murray popped one high in the air that was dropped by Jeremiah Burks. Brett Wisely came all the way around to score on the error and push Bowling Green ahead 8-3.

Grant Witherspoon hit another home run in the ninth to further lock down a Bowling Green 9-3 victory. John Doxakis took the win for Bowling Green. Edgar Navarro suffered a loss for the Dash. Bowling Green takes the series 4-2.

The Dash have Monday off and will host the Asheville Tourists in the final series of the 2021 season beginning on Tuesday, September 14.
