Dash Snap Three-Game Win Streak in 9-5 Loss to Jersey Shore

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (July 23, 2021) — The Winston-Salem Dash had their three-game winning streak snapped in a 9-5 loss to the Jersey Shore BlueClaws 9-5 on Friday night at Truist Stadium.

Jonathan Guzman took Dash starter Johan Dominguez to the left field porch on the very first pitch of the game to give the BlueClaws an early 1-0 lead. Dominguez was roughed up further in the second inning as Cole Stobbe lit up the scoreboard with a three-run shot to left field to put the ‘Claws in front 4-0.

Casey Martin walked and scored in the fourth inning, which would be the final for Dominguez. Dominguez allowed five earned runs on five hits, walking two and striking out six.

Isaiah Carranza took over in the fifth and allowed one run - a solo shot from Jhaylin Ortiz - which put the BlueClaws further ahead 6-0. McKinley Moore entered in the seventh and allowed another run to score on a single by Vito Friscia.

With the Dash down 7-0 in the seventh, Gunnar Troutwine put Winston-Salem back in the game with a three-run homer to the Foothills Brewpen in left center field. The offense kept rolling in the eighth after Alex Destino knocked his 10th homer of the season—a two-run blast to right field—to put Winston-Salem within striking distance at 7-5.

The tables turned in the ninth as Declan Cronin allowed a two-run round-tripper to Logan O’Hoppe to extend the Jersey Shore lead to a final score of 9-5. Ethan Lindow (2-4) snagged a win for the BlueClaws. Johan Dominguez (3-6) suffered the loss for the Dash.

The Dash lead the series 3-1 and look to secure a series victory on Saturday night. Dan Metzdorf will toe the rubber for Winston-Salem. Kevin Gowdy will get the ball for Jersey Shore.
