WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (May 21, 2018) - Dash left-hander Bernardo Flores registered his sixth quality start of the season on Monday, but the Dash recorded a season-low three hits as Buies Creek defeated Winston-Salem 4-1 in the series opener at BB&T Ballpark.
Buies Creek (24-19) plated a run in the top of the first. After Osvaldo Duarte led off the game with a single against Flores (3-3), he eventually scored on a single from Troy Sieber to give the Astros a 1-0 lead.

Winston-Salem (23-20) struck right back in the bottom of the frame. Alex Call singled with one out and then moved to second on a wild pitch. Then, Blake Rutherford singled through the right side to bring around Call for his team-leading 31st RBI of the season.
However, after allowing a run in the first, Astros starter Abdiel Saldana (5-0) finished his outing without allowing another baserunner. The right-hander retired the final 14 batters he faced, striking out four across his five innings of work. Right-hander Jorge Alcala threw four innings in relief and allowed just one hit, a leadoff single to Mitch Roman in the sixth, en route to his second save of the year.
The Astros took the lead for good in the third. Chas McCormick singled with one out and moved to second on an Abraham Toro walk. Then, after Flores balked, which put the runners on second and third, Kristian Trompiz stroked a two-run single to make it a 3-1 content. The Astros added one final run in the fifth when Sieber recorded a run-scoring single.
Flores ultimately allowed four runs (three earned) on 10 hits in his seven innings of work, marking the seventh time in his eight starts this year that the left-hander completed six or more innings in an outing. In the effort, Flores struck out six and walked one.
