GREENSBORO, N.C. (June 4, 2021) — The Winston-Salem Dash fell to the Greensboro Grasshoppers 17-3 on Friday evening.

Johan Dominguez took the mound for his sixth start in 2021 and was rattled early as Fabricio Macias and Jared Triolo came home on a sacrifice fly to center from Grant Koch.

The Dash creeped in on the early lead as Daniel Millwee scored from third on a balk by Greensboro starter Tahnaj Thomas to bring the Dash within a run of tying. Greensboro tacked on one more in the third as Matt Frazier scored on a groundout. In the fourth, Will Matthiessen sent a two-run blast over the wall to put Greensboro ahead at 5-1.

Aaron Shackelford blasted a solo shot—his ninth of the year—to extend the lead by one in the fifth.

After a scoreless sixth, the Dash mustered up a bit of luck around the basepaths, as reliever Steven Jennings dealt back-to-back walks to A.J. Gill and Daniel Millwee. Gill came home on a fielder’s choice hit into by Ian Dawkins to close in on the Hoppers at 6-2.

Ryan Williamson entered in the seventh inning and pitched himself into trouble, giving up a single and three walks to the first four batters faced. Williamson balked twice with the bases loaded to plate Matt Frazier and Liover Peguero. Aaron Shackelford came home on a fielder’s choice and Lolo Sanchez touched the plate on a single by Grant Koch. By the end of the seventh frame, Greensboro enjoyed a 10-2 lead.

Things looked up momentarily in the eighth for the Dash as Yolbert Sanchez hit his first home run of the year—a solo shot to minimally close in on the Hoppers by one.

The scoring ended there for the Dash, whose pitching fell apart in the eighth inning. Both Trey Jeans and Lazaro Leal entered to pitch and allowed seven earned runs on only three hits and six walks. The tumultuous seventh inning carried Greensboro to a 17-3 lead and a victory over the Dash.

Steve Jennings (1-0) penned the win for Greensboro, while Johan Dominguez (2-3) took the loss for the Dash.
