WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (June 22, 2022) — Winston-Salem mounted a comeback in the ninth inning, but ultimately fell short in a 4-3 loss to the Hudson Valley Renegades.

Hudson Valley got on the board first in game two.

Tyler Hardman doubled to open the top of the second inning. Later, with one out, Carlos Narvaez got a 2-0 pitch to hit and launched it just over the left field wall for a two-run home run.

Renegades starter Matt Sauer held the Warthogs largely silent through four innings, allowing just two base hits and issuing one walk.

In the fifth inning, Cooper Bowman reached first on an error, before Everson Pereira tripled to push Hudson Valley’s lead to 3-0. Later in the frame, Tyler Hardman pushed Pereira across with a sacrifice fly to right-center.

Hudson Valley pitching continued to baffle the Warthog lineup. Winston-Salem held scoreless through the eighth inning, but kept the game at 4-0 as well.

Cooper Bradford and Luis Amaya combined for four scoreless innings in relief of Garrett Schoenle, then Chase Plymell tossed a scoreless ninth to set up a potential comeback effort.

The bottom of the ninth began with both Oscar Colas and Bryan Ramos drawing walks. Then, Luis Mieses dropped a double down the left field line to score both Colas and Ramos, with Mieses advancing to third base on the throw to the plate. Tyler Osik then drove in Mieses with a sacrifice fly, and the ‘Hogs cut the deficit to 4-3. However, Ben Norman went down on strikes to end the game and Hudson Valley won 4-3. Sauer got the official win, and Schoenle took the loss.
