WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (August 2, 2022) — The Winston-Salem Dash secured a 4-2 victory in their series opener against the Brooklyn Cyclones.

Leadoff man Duke Ellis got the ball rolling for the Dash in the first inning. He singled, then was pushed to second base on a Colson Montgomery ground out. Then, Ellis was able to steal third base and score when the throw to the bag was off-target.

Chase Solesky worked through three clean innings to preserve a 1-0 Dash lead, before Brooklyn found some cracks in the fourth inning. Nic Gaddis and Jose Peroza both drew walks with one out, then Jose Mena doubled. Gaddis scored to tie the game, but Peroza was thrown out at the plate on a relay from Ellis in center, to Montgomery to Adam Hackenberg.

In the sixth inning, Winston-Salem quickly broke the tie. Ben Norman crushed the first pitch oh the frame for a leadoff, solo home run. Then right behind him, Tyler Osik also went deep to put the Dash ahead 3-1.

Solesky worked a scoreless sixth inning to end his night. The right-hander allowed just three base hits with that lone run, while registering six punchouts.

The Dash extended their lead in the eighth, which began with a Ben Norman double. Osik singled behind him, but Norman was held up at third. Later in the inning, Alsander Womack was able to plate Norman with a sacrifice fly to right field.

Brooklyn did bring the winning run to the plate in the ninth inning. Shervyen Newton doubled and then Matt Rudick walked. A single by Stanley Consuegra plated Newton and cut the Dash lead to 4-2, but Chase Plymell recorded the final out of the game to lock down a 4-2 Dash win. Plymell got the save for Solesky’s win, while Luis Moreno took the loss.
