WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (May 22, 2018) - Despite home runs from Gavin Sheets and Zach Remillard , the Dash dropped their fourth straight game as Buies Creek defeated Winston-Salem 12-4 on Tuesday night at BB&T Ballpark.
Buies Creek (25-19) got on the board early in the first inning against Dash starter Jimmy Lambert (3-4), as Osvaldo Duarte led off the game with a single. Duarte then stole second and advanced to third on a flyout. Abraham Toro followed with a run-scoring double to put Buies Creek up 1-0. Lambert then got J.J. Matijevic to fly out, but Chas McCormick drove in another run with a double to right field that put the Astros up 2-0.

However, in the bottom of the second inning, Winston-Salem (23-21) responded against Buies Creek starter Hector Perez (1-1). On an 0-1 pitch, Sheets crushed his first home run as a member of the Dash to right-center, a solo shot to cut the deficit to 2-1.
After Lambert retired nine straight batters, Troy Sieber stroked a single with two outs in the fourth. The next batter, Luis Payano, proceeded to bring home Sieber with a double to left field to put Buies Creek ahead 3-1.
In the top of the fifth inning, the Astros tacked on two more runs to expand their lead to 5-1. Buies Creek led off the inning with three straight singles, the third of which scored Alfredo Angarita. Lambert struck out the next batter, but with J.J. Matijevic batting, the Astros executed a double steal in which Duarte stole home for the fifth Buies Creek run.
Reliever Zach Thompson entered in the seventh inning and retired the first batter he faced on a strikeout. Then, Duarte reached on a single, and, with Ronnie Dawson batting, was able to steal second and third despite being originally caught in a rundown on a pickoff attempt to first. Later in the at-bat, Dawson grounded an RBI single to right to bring home Duarte. Dawson would later score on an RBI triple from Matijevic to make it a 7-1 contest.
The Astros tacked on two more runs against Mike Morrison in the top of the eighth before the Dash capped their scoring efforts in the bottom of the frame. Yeyson Yrizarri led off the inning with a single, and, after Ti'Quan Forbes singled with one out, Remillard drilled a three-run homer to left field to cut the deficit to 9-4. The home run was the second of the season for Remillard, who hit his first of the year on Friday against the Down East Wood Ducks.
The Dash proceeded to load the bases on three straight walks to Alex Call, Luis Basabe and Sheets, but Yermin Mercedes grounded out to end the rally. Morrison then surrendered three more runs in the top of the ninth on a triple, a double and a home run, and Ronel Blanco retired the Dash in order in the bottom of the ninth.
The Dash continue their series against the Astros at BB&T Ballpark with a doubleheader on Wednesday. The first game will begin at 11 a.m., as Dash left-hander Tanner Banks (1-2, 3.52 ERA) will get the start against Astros right-hander Carson LaRue (2-1, 2.67 ERA).
