Tourists Put Dash Away 10-1 in Game Two

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (September 14, 2021) — The Winston-Salem Dash were defeated 9-1 on Tuesday afternoon in the second of a six-game series against the Asheville Tourists.

Shay Whitcomb gave Asheville an early lead on a solo home run to left field in the first inning.

The Tourists struck with another longball in the third inning as Wilyer Abreu laced a two-run jack to right-center field to push Asheville ahead 3-0.

The Dash answered with some small ball in the fifth. Leadoff man Brandon Bossard found himself on second base after grounding into a throwing error from Asheville shortstop Shay Whitcomb. Bossard scurried home on a ground ball single to right off the bat of Travis Moniot to put the first run on the board for the Dash.

Dash Starter Kaleb Roper exited after five innings, having allowed three earned runs on five hits while walking one and punching out a season-high ten batters.

Asheville plated another pair in the seventh as Shay Whitcomb doubled to score Zach Daniels and Luis Guerrero. The Tourists broke the game open in the eighth inning as Yainer Diaz belted a two-run homer. Deury Carrasco singled and hustled home on a triple off the right field wall from Wilyer Abreu. Abreu jogged home on a sacrifice fly to right by Luis Santana to drive the Tourists to a 9-1 lead.

C.J. Stubbs poked a home run out to right field for the final run of the game in the top of the ninth.

The Dash failed to put anything more together and fell in game two by the score of 10-1. Asheville starter Julio Robaina was credited with a win. Kaleb Roper took the loss for Winston-Salem.

As Asheville moves ahead in the series 2-0, the Dash look to game three on Thursday night. Karan Patel will take the hill for Winston-Salem. Alfredi Jimenez is listed to start for Asheville. First pitch is slated for 7:00 p.m. with coverage beginning at 6:45 on https://www.milb.com/winston-salem.
