WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (Jan. 22, 2020) - The Chicago White Sox have announced that 12 former Winston-Salem players, including eight 2019 Dash players - Caleb Frare, Codi Heuer, Tyler Johnson, Jacob Lindgren, Nick Madrigal, Carlos Perez, Jonathan Stiever, and Andrew Vaughn - have earned non-roster invitations to Spring Training.
Right-hander Ryan Burr, outfielder Luis González, left-hander Hunter Schryver and infielder Gavin Sheets will join the other non-roster invitees in Glendale, Ariz., next month.

Frare, who made his big league debut with the White Sox in 2018 and pitched for Chicago this past year, recorded three outings with the Dash in 2019 and did not give up a run. He was traded to the White Sox from the New York Yankees for international signing bonus pool money.
Heuer, a former sixth-round draft pick by the White Sox in 2018 out of Wichita State, dazzled in the bullpen for the Dash in 2019. The right-hander struck out 43 batters in 38.1 innings pitched while yielding a 2.82 ERA in 20 appearances. Heuer ended last season with Double-A Birmingham, where he posted a minuscule 1.84 ERA over 22 outings.
Johnson returned to Winston-Salem last year after suffering a lat strain in spring training. A former fifth-round pick out of the University of South Carolina, Johnson made seven outings with the Dash and struck out 15 batters in 10.0 innings. The former Gamecock ended the year in Birmingham after a promotion on July 22.
Lindgren, who pitched in seven games with the New York Yankees in 2015, made 12 appearances with the Dash last year, posting a 1.53 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 17.2 innings pitched. The former Mississippi State Bulldog was signed by the White Sox as a minor league free agent prior to the 2019 campaign.
Madrigal, who was selected fourth overall by the White Sox in 2018, started last season with the Dash and played in 49 games for Winston-Salem. During that time, Madrigal only struck out six times, yielding a Minor League best 2.4 percent strikeout rate. He also hit .272/.346/.377 with 10 doubles, two triples and two homers while registering 17 steals.
Perez was the Dash's primary catcher for the 2019 season, and the backstop threw out 41 of 105 would-be base stealers. At the plate, Perez posted a batting line of .263/.316/.327 with two homers, 14 doubles and 33 RBIs.
One of the Dash's biggest stars in 2019, Stiever earns a non-roster invite after putting together a great second-half of the season with the Dash last year. A former fifth-round pick of Indiana University, Stiever went 6-4 with a 2.15 ERA over 12 starts. The righty struck out 77 batters over 71.0 innings pitched and recorded 10 quality starts.
Vaughn, who was selected third overall by the White Sox in 2019, finished out his draft year in Winston-Salem, where he played 29 games and recorded a batting line of .252/.349/.411 with three homers and eight doubles over 29 games played. The former Golden Spikes Award winner at Cal also drew 16 walks to just 17 strikeouts in his time with the Dash.
A 2017 Dash alumnus, Burr missed all of last year due to Tommy John surgery. Sheets, a 2018 alumnus and a former star at Wake Forest University, played all of 2019 with the Barons, as did Gonzalez, a fellow 2018 alumnus. Meanwhile, Schryver played for Winston-Salem in 2018 and finished last season with Triple-A Charlotte.
The Dash's 2020 season begins on Thursday, April 9, with the opener of a week-long road trip. Meanwhile, Winston-Salem kicks off its 11th season at BB&T Ballpark on Thursday, April 16, against the Down East Wood Ducks. Full- and partial-season ticket packages are on sale now.
