WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (August 10, 2022) — The Winston-Salem Dash dropped a tightly-fought contest against the Bowling Green Hot Rods 6-4.

Bowling Green got their offense going in the top of the first inning. Mason Auer dropped in a single with two outs, then cleanup man Heriberto Hernandez launched a two-run home run to put the Hot Rods ahead 2-0.

But the Dash bounced back in the home half of the frame. Colson Montgomery laced a double with one man gone, then Luis Mieses smoked a pitch past the first baseman Nate Soria to plate Montgomery. Tyler Osik then continued his torrid stretch at the plate with an RBI single to score Mieses from second, and tie the game at two apiece.

From there, the game settled into more of a pitcher’s duel. Garrett Schoenle worked through three scoreless frames from the second through the fourth inning, but Bowling Green’s Anthony Molina mirrored him to hold the game at 2-2 into the fifth inning.

In the top of the fifth, Gionti Turner doubled and then stole third base. Then, Alika Williams singled to push Turner home and give Bowling Green a 3-2 advantage.

Bowling Green held on to that one-run lead into the top of the seventh. Abiezel Ramirez opened the inning on a walk, then back-to-back singles loaded the bases with nobody out. Alex Mateo then replaced Chase Plymell, before getting an RBI sacrifice fly out of Alika Williams. Mason Auer drew another walk to re-load the bases. That set the scene for Hernandez, who knocked in two runs with a single into left field, and the Hot Rods extended their lead to 6-2.

In the bottom of the seventh, Winston-Salem was able to load the bases with a pair of walks sandwiched around a hit-by-pitch. Later, a wild pitch allowed Alsander Womack to break for the plate and score to cut the deficit to 6-3. Then in the bottom of the eighth, Tyler Osik clobbered his ninth home run of the year to further chop into the Hot Rods lead.

However, the Dash were sent down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the ninth as the Hot Rods secured a game two win 6-4.
