WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (May 11, 2018) - Alex Call smacked a three-run homer in the ninth, but the Dash could not overcome a dominant offensive night from the Wood Ducks, dropping Friday night's contest 10-6 at BB&T Ballpark.
The Dash trailed from the start after right-hander Dylan Cease (4-2) was tagged for four runs on four hits in the first inning, including a double from Chuck Leblanc.

Winston-Salem (20-15) got a run back in the bottom of the first inning against right-hander Walker Weickel (1-2). Call reached on an error, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a groundout from Blake Rutherford
But, the Down East (19-16) bats picked up right where they left off. In the top of the second inning, the Wood Ducks sent eight men to the plate, tacking on three more runs to make it a 7-1 ballgame.
Cease exited the game after the Wood Ducks began the third with back-to-back singles. The right-hander allowed a career-high eight runs (seven earned) on nine hits in two innings.
Kyle Kubat entered the game for the Dash and allowed an inherited runner to score, but put up a scoreless frame in the fourth. But, an inning later, a Leody Taveras double gave the Wood Ducks two more runs to make it 10-1.
Weickel allowed just two hits in his six innings of work, allowing just one run (unearned) and striking out seven to earn his first win of the season.
The Dash, however, put up a fight in the late innings. Gavin Sheets tripled to lead off the seventh and then scored on a single from Yermin Mercedes to make it 10-2. Then, in the eighth, Sheets drove in a run with an RBI single.
In the ninth, Zach Remillard doubled with one out, and he moved to third on a Luis Basabe single. That set the table for Call, who drove Jacob Shortslef's 1-1 pitch over the left-field fence for his fourth home run of the season. However, Shortslef retired Rutherford to complete the win for Down East.
Winston-Salem's series with the Wood Ducks continues on Saturday at BB&T Ballpark. Right-hander Luis Martinez (2-1, 3.95 ERA) starts for the Dash against Wood Ducks left-hander Christian Torres (2-2, 3.67 ERA). First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m., with coverage beginning at 5:45 p.m. on wsdash.com/broadcast, MiLB.tv and the TuneIn Radio App.
Promotions during the Dash's homestand include a Chick-fil-A Four Pack offer and a Gold's Gym BOOTCAMP on Saturday, and a Mother's Day celebration on Sunday.
