KINSTON, NC - The Wood Ducks collected 10 hits and had a huge night from Andretty Cordero, but a late comeback attempt came up short in the 14-6 loss to the Pelicans. Cordero set a new season-high with three runs batted in and clocked his first homer of the season.
Cordero's two-run blast in the sixth inning was followed by a Josh Altman homer as it was the first set of back-to-back homers of the season for the DEWDs and only the third time in team history.

Myrtle Beach jumped out to an early lead they would never relinquish. Through five innings, they chased starter Michael Matuella from the game and built a 10-3 lead.
Down East also got another RBI from Chuck Leblanc, extending his league lead in the category to 11. The Woodies attempted the comeback by scoring in three consecutive innings, highlighted by the two homers in the sixth to make it a 10-6 game.
The Pelicans responded and shut down the effort by scoring the final four runs of the game unanswered. 14 runs matched a season-high for the Pelicans and 19 hits marked a new high.
The Wood Ducks can claim the series on Sunday with right-hander Walker Weickel on the mound. He will start opposite Alex Lange for the Pelicans at 2:00 p.m.
It is the first "Sunday Funday" of the year presented by Cricket Wireless of Kinston featuring an autograph session on the concourse with select Wood Ducks players. Also kids can run the bases postgame and Lil' DEWDs Kids Club members receive free admission with a paid adult.
