Scott Williams Named Rangers Reliever of the Month

KINSTON, NC - On Monday afternoon the Texas Rangers announced its organizational Players of the Month for July and Down East right-hander Scott Williams was named the Reliever of the Month.

Williams, 23, appeared in 10 games in July for the Wood Ducks without allowing a run to score. In total, he worked 13 innings in the month and only allowed six baserunners the entire month. Furthermore, he struck out 15 batters in that stretch.

It is the first award for the Berwyn, PA native within the organization. Currently, he has worked 20 consecutive scoreless innings since June 11th. On the overall season, opponents are only hitting .154 against him and currently maintains a minuscule 0.79 ERA along with a 1-0 record.

The announcement continues the streak of relievers of the month for the Wood Ducks within the Rangers organization. RHP Ricardo Rodríguez was honored in April and June, while LHP Brady Feigl was honored for his split May between Down East and Frisco.

Along with Williams, 1B/OF Tyreque Reed (AZL Rangers) was named Player of the Month, RHP Kyle Cody (Hickory Crawdads - now Down East) was named Pitcher of the Month, OF Leody Taveras (Hickory Crawdads) was named Defender of the Month, and C Jose Trevino was the recipient of the True Ranger Award.
