MOOSIC, PA — Brian Keller spun six brilliant innings and Ryan Fitzgerald belted a two-run homer, but an eighth-inning blast from Ronald Guzman led the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders to a 3-2 win over the Worcester Red Sox on Wednesday night at PNC Field.
In his first game since July 26 (turf toe), Fitzgerald put Worcester ahead 2-0 in the second inning, blasting a two-run shot over the right-field fence and just inside the foul pole.
Worcester held the lead until the eighth inning thanks to another spectacular start from Brian Keller (6 IP, 1 R, 3 H, 3 BB, 6 K) and a scoreless seventh from A.J. Politi. Oswaldo Cabrera cut the lead to 2-1 with an RBI single in the third.
In the eighth, Guzman sliced a two-out, two-run homer over the left-field fence to give the RailRiders their first lead at 3-2.
Worcester put the tying run at third base with one out in the ninth, but Greg Weissert (S, 15) got a groundout and a strikeout to close out the game.
Franchy Cordero and Pedro Castellanos each went 2-for-4 with a double, accounting for half of Worcester’s eight hits.
