ALLENTOWN, P.A. — The Worcester Red Sox (15-9) won their third series in a row with a rain-shortened 2-0 victory over the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (13-11) on Sunday. The game was called after six innings of play, marking the fourth straight win for the WooSox over Lehigh Valley.

After two comeback wins in a doubleheader sweep on Saturday, Worcester took the lead first on Sunday. Cesar Puello began the top of the fourth with a walk, and after a flyout, Jett Bandy took first on a walk of his own. A Josh Ockimey flyout pushed Puello to third, and Tate Matheny lined an 0-1 pitch over short for a go-ahead RBI single.

In the fifth, Franchy Cordero came to the plate against a brand new pitcher: David Paulino. Cordero watched a strike go by and hammered the next pitch, deep over the right field wall for his second home run in as many days to make it 2-0 WooSox. The 26-year-old has three homers in his last four games between Triple-A and the Major Leagues, all against the Philadelphia Phillies organization.

John Schreiber began the day on the mound for Worcester, striking out two in a scoreless first. He was followed by Stephen Gonsalves, who tossed five innings of scoreless ball along with nine strikeouts to cap off a strong series for WooSox pitching. Over their last four games, Worcester arms have an era of 1.86 in 29 innings of work.

The WooSox are off tomorrow and begin a six-game homestand Tuesday against the Rochester Red Wings at 6:35 p.m. Television coverage from Polar Park is on NESN+ tape delay at 10 p.m. Radio coverage starts live at 6:15 on 100 FM The Pike and the WooSox Radio Network. Rochester’s RHP Jefry Rodriguez (0-0, 7.20) faces Kyle Hart (1-1, 4.50) in the series opener.
