TRENTON, N.J. — The Buffalo Bisons (4-2) jumped out early and pitched their way to a 4-1 win over the Worcester Red Sox (2-4) in the final game of opening week at Trenton Thunder Ballpark on Sunday afternoon.

The team that scored first won every game in the series, and for the fourth time this week, the Bisons got on the board first. Buffalo leadoff man Josh Palacios doubled, and following an interference call, got to third. Palacios scored one batter later on a Breyvic Valera RBI groundout.

In the fourth, the Bisons added three more. Tyler White doubled then scored after Christian Colon reached on an error from Connor Wong—one of three errors in the game made by Wong. After a strikeout, a Juan Graterol single chased Worcester starter Ryan Weber from the game. The right-hander allowed four runs over 3.1 innings, though only one of those four were earned. Valera drove home Colon with a single to left off of reliever Bobby Poyner, and Buffalo extended its lead to 4-0 after four.

The WooSox got their lone run in the sixth. Jarren Duran extended his on-base streak to three games with a walk, and on the next pitch, he went 270 feet. Jeter Downs singled through the left side, Duran went first-to-third and scored when the left fielder Valera threw the ball over the third baseman. Downs finished the day with two of Worcester’s four hits. The other two came off the bat of Yairo Munoz.

For the second straight night, the WooSox bullpen held Buffalo scoreless. Poyner, Kevin McCarthy and Kaleb Ort tossed 4.2 scoreless innings, striking out seven in that span.

The WooSox return home to Polar Park on Tuesday for their historic home opener against the Syracuse Mets at 3:05 p.m. Radio coverage of the opening ceremony begins at 2:15 p.m. on 98.9 Nash Icon, while the full game will be on both 98.9 and 100 FM The Pike on WooSox Radio Network.
