Yard Goats Season Ends with Road Loss in Binghamton

Binghamton, NY- The Hartford Yard Goats were defeated by the Binghamton Rumble Ponies by the score of 9-3 on Monday afternoon at NYSEG Stadium in Binghamton, New York. It was Hartford's final game of the 2017 season. The Rumble Ponies broke a 3-3 tie with a pair of runs in the fifth inning and rallied for four runs in the eighth inning to sweep the three-game series. Hartford had a 3-0 lead after two innings before Binghamton answered with nine runs over the next six frames and extended their winning streak to eight consecutive games. Yard Goats Eastern League Season Ending All-Star selection Josh Fuentes had two hits, including a triple and double to finish the season with a .307 batting average, tops on the club.        

The Rumble Ponies will begin the best of five Eastern League Divisional Series (ELDS) and host the Trenton Thunder on Wednesday night. The Yard Goats finished the season with a record of 62-77 and Binghamton finished the regular season with a record of 85-54.  
The Yard Goats scored three runs in the second inning off Binghamton starter Marcos Molina, ending a stretch of 20 scoreless innings for Hartford. Dom Nuñez began the rally with a leadoff single. Josh Fuentes followed with an RBI triple, scoring Nunez from first and giving the Yard Goats a 1-0 lead. Later in the frame, Omar Carrizales belted a two-run triple scoring Luis Jean and Craig Schlitter making it 3-0 Hartford.
The Rumble Ponies tied the game with three runs in the third inning off Hartford starter Craig Schlitter. The Yard Goats righty ran into problems when he loaded the bases on two walks and a single. With two outs and the bases loaded, Schlitter walked Keven Taylor, scoring PJ Colon to make it 3-1. Greenwich, Connecticut native LJ Mazzilli followed with a two-run single, scoring Luis Guillorme and Kevin Kaczmarski tying the game at 3-3.   
Binghamton broke the 3-3 tie with a pair of runs in the fifth inning off the Hartford bullpen. Kevin Kaczmarski singled and Peter Alonso walked against reliever Huascar Brazoban, putting runners at first and second base. Kevin Taylor followed with an RBI double off reliever Will Lamb, scoring Kaczmarski from second and giving the Rumble Ponies a 4-3 lead. Lamb then walked the next two batters including a bases loaded walk to Tomás Nido, scoring Peter Alonso to make it 5-3.     
The Rumble Ponies added four more runs in the eighth inning. Binghamton put together the rally with three hits, walk and two errors. Kevin Taylor's two-RBI single highlighted the inning.       
The Yard Goats will open the 2018 season at home on Thursday, April 5 at 7:05 PM against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Toronto Blue Jays affiliate) at Dunkin' Donuts Park in Hartford. Full season tickets for the 2018 season are now on sale. Ticket packages, individual tickets and the promotional schedule will be available at a later date. The Yard Goats have home games against the Red Sox, Yankees and Mets affiliates in Hartford.
