Ynoa Keeps Rockin' in New Britain, 4-1

B-Mets stretch winning streak to five
July 21, 2015

NEW BRITAIN, CT - Buoyed by Binghamton's three-run first, Gabriel Ynoa tossed seven strong innings to guide the B-Mets to a 4-1 victory over the New Britain Rock Cats on Tuesday night at New Britain Stadium. Brock Peterson and Brandon Nimmo drove in a run apiece in the first while Dario Alvarez and Paul Sewald struck out every Rock Cat they faced to seal Binghamton's fifth straight win.

Binghamton jumped on Matt Flemer to set the tone following an 81-minute rain delay. After a double by LJ Mazzilli, Peterson laced an RBI single into left. Nimmo ripped an RBI triple off the right-field wall before Josh Rodriguez reached on a run-producing fielding error by Zach Osborne at short.

New Britain scratched out their only run with station-to-station offense in the third. Joey Wong led off with a single, advanced two bases on consecutive ground outs and scored on a single by David Dahl.

With their lead trimmed, Binghamton added back on in the fourth. Gavin Cecchini placed a two-out RBI double down the left-field line, plating Joe Benson from second base to give the B-Mets a 4-1 lead.

The B-Mets maintained the lead thanks to a pair of sparkling defensive plays up the middle. With a runner aboard in the third, Cecchini made a diving stop from short on a ground ball up the middle and threw out Tauchman to end the inning. Mazzilli made a diving catch to his left at second base to end the fifth.

Ynoa's last challenge arrived in the sixth when New Britain loaded the bases on two hits and a two-out walk to Will Swanner. The righty slipped out of trouble by inducing Dean Espy to ground out to third to end the frame.

The B-Mets bullpen cruised to the finish line. Alvarez extended his scoreless streak to 14 games by striking out the side in a perfect eighth. Sewald, returning to the B-Mets after winning silver at the Pan Am Games, matched the southpaw strikeout-for-strikeout in a blank ninth and earned his 15th save of the season.

Ynoa (7-6) allowed five hits over seven innings to earn his fifth victory in seven starts. Flemer (4-7) was tagged for four runs (three runs) on nine hits over seven innings in the defeat.

The B-Mets (52-43) conclude their three-game series against the Rock Cats on Wednesday afternoon at 12:05 PM. RHP Michael Fulmer takes the mound against LHP Ryan Carpenter.
