Erie Crushes Akron 8-1 in Finale

Summary

Erie pounded out 18 hits and received strong pitching from Austin Kubitza in their 8-1 victory over Akron Sunday afternoon at Canal Park.

Turning Point

Erie scored the first runs of the game in the top of the second inning on RBI hits by Alberto Gonzalez and Connor Harrell. They would never relinquish the lead.

Mound Presence

Akron starter Shawn Morimando struggled in his five plus innings allowing 10 hits and six earned runs. Reliever Jacob Lee also had a tough go of it allowing two runs in relief of Morimando. Erie starter Austin Kubitza worked in and out of trouble allowing six hits and one run in his five innings.

Duck Tales

The RubberDucks managed nine hits but couldn't put together any rallies. Carlos Moncrief had two hits and drove in Akron's only run on the afternoon. Catcher Alex Lavisky also had two hits. Bradley Zimmer is now hitting .319 over his last 17 games. Erie outfielder Wynton Bernard had five hits by himself.

Notes

The RubberDucks have now lost their fifth straight game. They will finish the season with an 8-9 record against Erie. The Ducks haven't lost five straight games since early July. The last time they were swept at home was by Bowie in late July. The RubberDucks now stand in third place in the Eastern League. They are 6 games behind first place Bowie and 2.5 games behind second place Altoona.

The RubberDucks and Trenton Thunder will play the first of their three-game series tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. at Arm and Hammer Park.
